Life in the Freezer

Do you know someone in your office who is always cold? This is like that...but much colder

There are some uncomfortable environments that people work in all over. A cold storage facility would rank up there with them, in our opinion. Due to the multitude of products we store, Evansville Cold Storage has a couple different environments. The coldest could be considered dangerous, if not for our safety precautions.

There are three different types of rooms that ECS utilizes. The first is dry storage, where products are kept at room temperature. The next is the cooler, which is kept at 32 ° Fahrenheit, but not nearly as cold as the freezer. Finally, the last room is the freezer. The freezer at ECS is kept at 0° Fahrenheit. If it sounds cold to you, that’s because it is. Our warehouse workers sometimes spend extended time in this room, and therefore are exposed to extremely harsh conditions. Working in these conditions in everyday clothes would be dangerous, so our workers have to use specialized gear in order to make sure they walk out the door at the end of the day no worse for the wear.

Like stated above, our warehouse employees wear a specific type of gear when they enter the cold storage part of the warehouse.  Everything they wear is RefrigiWear, a brand specifically designed to work in the cold. Here is what our employees are required to wear when entering the freezer:

Bib overalls
